Remembering Mandisa 1976-2024

April 22, 2024

Celebrated CCM vocal powerhouse Mandisa passed away yesterday, being found dead at her home. The cause of death have not been revealed yet. She was 47.
The Gospel Music Association offered the following words:
“She was a voice of encouragement and truth to people facing life’s challenges all around the world, and never hesitated to point people to the hope and love of Jesus.”

Other CCM artists also offered words of remembrance:

“I have never met an artist who is more encouraging and supportive to other artists than Mandisa. She was honest and authentic but I always left her side feeling better. She watched every act, every night on every tour singing along with a smile that made you feel alive. From “Lose My Soul” to “Bleed the Same” to “Good Mornin’” I was honored to call her friend. She was honest about her struggles and viewed her break throughs as an opportunity to let others know that they can experience victories just like her. She saw us as a family. God’s family. In all our diversity. All flawed. And all in need of the love of a Good Father, a Heavenly Father. I know her battle is over but I will always treasure her memory and that smile and infectious laugh that I had the pleasure of experiencing so often.” – TobyMac

“One of the sweetest, most talented, beautiful, Jesus lovin’ humans I have EVER known. Miss you ‘disa!” – Mac Powell

“Mandisa is the sweetest, kindest soul that @anniedixon__ and I have met on the road. After hearing she went to be with the Jesus last night I was reflecting this morning on the times we had together. Remembering we shared a bus on @tobymac hits deep tour, where I would sing her song “Good Morning” to her every single morning. Or the time I wore a shirt with her face on it to sing with her on stage. But what I remember most was her kindness and ministering spirit into both Annie and I. She sent me this voice memo a few years back and it seemed right to share. @mandisaofficial you will be missed, but I know it’s only for a short while, cuz it’s see you again not goodbye.” – Colton Dixon

“We are saddened to hear of the passing of Mandisa. A force of nature, with the voice of an angel who truly touched so many lives, Mandisa is a legend whose light and legacy will never be forgotten.” – Transparent Productions

“This one hurt deeply. Love you Disa. You left your mark on so many of us. Praying peace over all those affected by this loss.” – Blanca

“The news of Mandisa’s passing this morning was truly a shock. Not only was she a powerhouse of a talent but she also possessed a genuinely kind spirit. We ministered together several times, she sang background vocals on my album ‘Thank You Lord’ and joined me on several tours. On one particular tour, notes kept appearing in everyone’s bunk on the bus or in their instrument cases. These were encouraging messages like: “You are blessed and highly favored,” or “You’re such a blessing on this tour.” Only at the end of the tour did we discover it had been Mandisa. Whether behind the scenes or center stage, her presence always brought joy and hope.” – Don Moen

I think I was born with a pair of headphones attached to my head!

I have always loved radio and was introduced to Contemporary Christian Music when I was a lowly freshman in high school, way back in 1977! "Praise the Lord" by The Imperials, "Your Love Broke Through" by Keith Green and others were the first songs I heard and played over and over again!
