ORPHANSONG UNITES TOP ARTISTS TO BENEFIT CHILDREN IN AFRICA

March 14, 2015

OrphanSong, the sophomore release from STORYSONG Music, bows tomorrow (March 13) exclusively at Family Christian Stores nationwide. A diversity of Christian music’s top artists, including Newsboys, Jamie Grace, Jars of Clay, The Gotee Brothers (featuring TobyMac), Nicole C. Mullen, Buddy Greene and Mark Schultz, among others, are featured on the 15-track compilation, which was created to raise funds for physical and educational needs of orphans in Africa.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to lend a song to such important and dignifying work,” said Jars of Clay’s Dan Haseltine. “The affirmation of hope and dignity in the lives of vulnerable children is a purpose worth singing about.”

“It is my honor and privilege to be included in OrphanSong, a music project that hopes to raise money and awareness for one of the most pressing needs today on the continent of Africa, that of orphaned children,” said Buddy Greene, award-winning singer/songwriter and instrumentalist. “My fellow artists and I have been pleased to donate our songs, so that the producers of OrphanSong can make 100% of the profits raised go toward educating and sharing the love of Christ with orphaned and vulnerable children. It’s a cool CD with some great music, and dedicated to a great purpose.”

STORYSONG Music is a division of STORYSONG, a movement created by singer/songwriter Mark Wagner along with Leadership International founder Larry Warren. Committed to inspiring people and bringing peace and reconciliation through the art of storytelling, STORYSONG connects communities and shares the Hope of Jesus Christ through the redemptive transformation of lives.

“When we listen to the stories of our friends around the world, we find that we are not so different,” shares Wagner. “We began STORYSONG by traveling the world and encouraging young people to share their stories in creative ways, but we soon realized that many of the young people we were serving, especially in Africa, face significant physical struggle each day. STORYSONG Music was born to provide a channel of blessing to help meet those physical needs.”

OrphanSong is the follow-up to STORYSONG Music’s 2013 debut, STORYSONG Volume 1, a compilation featuring such artists as Ellie Holcomb, Jenny & Tyler and The Vespers, which raised money for family-based orphan care in Zimbabwe.

An acclaimed songwriter and recording artist for more than a decade, STORYSONG Music co-founder Mark Wagner’s solo releases include Sun’s Gonna Rise (2009) and Needlove (2012). A graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary, he has also worked extensively with organizations committed to serving young people in developing nations around the world.

I think I was born with a pair of headphones attached to my head!

I have always loved radio and was introduced to Contemporary Christian Music when I was a lowly freshman in high school, way back in 1977! "Praise the Lord" by The Imperials, "Your Love Broke Through" by Keith Green and others were the first songs I heard and played over and over again!
