Maylene and the Sons of Disaster Member Launches Worship Project

October 23, 2016

In 2009, after three unbelievable albums, legendary southern metal band Maylene and the Sons of Disaster said goodbye to bassist and co-founder, Roman Haviland. The jolly giant had been an integral part of the band since the beginning, but was ready for a life outside the industry, at least for a while. Now, Roman is reemerging with a new project and a fresh perspective on life, faith, and music. To be more specific, he has in mind a worship album unlike anything you’ve heard before.

“Thadeus, Kevan, Kelly, and I have all been through both tragedy and success in our lives,” says Haviland, speaking of his co-writers on the project. The team’s hope is to bring these experiences to the table for a rich and personal expression of God’s presence. And with blues influences, alongside rock and old southern gospel, fans of Maylene’s innovation will be pleased to find the same groundbreaking creativity in this new endeavor, simply titled “The 11th.”

Roman has been working on music in Nashville with Thadeus Sparkman, while also collaborating with Kevan Chandler on lyrics. He and Chandler will spend the month of November recording in Tampa with producer Kelly Nunn (former guitarist for Maylene and the Sons of Disaster). The 11th has a Facebook page, along with a Gofundme campaign.

“The reason I’m here on this planet is to love other people,” says Haviland on his Gofundme video. “This is probably the best way that I have to do that,” and he’s inviting you to be part of the process. Check out The 11th, give to the campaign as you’re able, and share with friends. And keep an eye out for the 2017 release of something truly extraordinary.

I think I was born with a pair of headphones attached to my head!

I have always loved radio and was introduced to Contemporary Christian Music when I was a lowly freshman in high school, way back in 1977! "Praise the Lord" by The Imperials, "Your Love Broke Through" by Keith Green and others were the first songs I heard and played over and over again!
