GRAMMY-Winning Rock Band Switchfoot Confront the Postmodern Crisis in “Absolution”

May 18, 2026

GRAMMY-winning rock band Switchfoot wrestles with tension and uncertainty in their new single “Absolution,” out now on all streaming platforms. Off their highly anticipated forthcoming album Forever Now, due June 26, the song serves as a cry of the postmodern crisis – a jarring juxtaposition of an upbeat, catchy melody colliding with a lyric that is deadly earnest. The track is set to be the band’s next single at Alternative radio, impacting on Tuesday, June 2.
“While writing ‘Absolution,’ I found myself wrestling with the contradictions within me, asking myself, ‘What wouldn’t I have done in my life? Can I make amends? Is there absolution for these things?’” said Jon Foreman, founding member and lead vocalist of Switchfoot. “I kept coming back to this idea from Carl Jung: ‘Until we make the unconscious conscious, it will direct our lives and we will call it fate.’ A lot of this record is about trying to unearth the things we want to keep buried and the parts of ourselves that inevitably surface in other ways.”

In addition to the new track, the beloved band just announced they will bring their captivating live show to fans across the country this fall on their headlining Forever Now Tour with special guest Anberlin. Named after their album Forever Now, the tour will hit 38 cities with stops in major markets like Los Angeles, Chicago, Nashville and more. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here.
“We poured everything we have into making Forever Now, but we always say that an album isn’t finished until you take it on tour,” said Tim Foreman, founding member and bassist of Switchfoot. “Playing new songs on the road and seeing them connect with fans every single night is a gift. These songs are incredibly meaningful to us… increasingly relevant in the ‘strange, strange times’ we live in. We can’t wait to hit the road and play these new songs alongside all our favorite older ones on the Forever Now Tour this fall.”
WATCH: FOREVER NOW TOUR TRAILER
Born from an intense and highly emotional period of songwriting, musical discovery and keen cultural observation, Forever Now is the most thematic and narrative-driven album of Switchfoot’s already storied career. The band’s fourteenth full-length studio LP – produced by longtime collaborator and accomplished producer Mike Elizondo – centers on the emotional roller coaster of a person’s final day on Earth. And more specifically, the questions one might ask themselves if confronted with a harsh but potentially enlightening reality. Watch the album’s trailer here. The band first set the tone for the guitar-driven record with the album’s lead track,“Wake Up, Mr. Crow,”released in March.
PRE-SAVE / PRE-ADD: FOREVER NOW
The new project adds to their extensive and widely known discography across thirteen studio albums, with over 10 million copies sold worldwide. In 2023, the award-winning band celebrated the 20th anniversary of their triple-Platinum album The Beautiful Letdown with a re-recording of the full record as well as a deluxe edition featuring collaborations from artists like Tyler Joseph (Twenty One Pilots), Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic), Jon Bellion, Jonas Brothers and more.
In addition to the fall tour, Switchfoot is set to perform at IndyCar’s 2026 Carb Day in Indianapolis next Friday, May 22, playing the Miller Lite Carb Day Concert alongside Counting Crows. The band’s annual Bro-Am Beach Fest is also on the horizon, taking place on June 13. Set in their hometown of San Diego, the Switchfoot Bro-Am Foundation is dedicated to giving back to the local community by heightening the profile of and providing grants to nonprofit organizations that support services to unhoused, at-risk and disadvantaged youth, with a special focus on programs related to music, art and surfing. Meet the Host

Kurt Wallace
I think I was born with a pair of headphones attached to my head!

I have always loved radio and was introduced to Contemporary Christian Music when I was a lowly freshman in high school, way back in 1977! "Praise the Lord" by The Imperials, "Your Love Broke Through" by Keith Green and others were the first songs I heard and played over and over again!
