Big Daddy Weave Honored with Rich Mullins Impact Award

September 17, 2016

Last week, radio industry peers gathered at the annual CMB Momentum in Orlando, Fl. celebrating Christian Radio. Fervent Records’ Big Daddy Weave was honored by Christian Music Broadcasters with the Rich Mullins Artist Impact Award for their long-time contributions to the music and ministry of Christian Radio.

“It is an honor for Christian Music Broadcasters to recognize Big Daddy Weave as the recipient of CMB’s Rich Mullins Artist Achievement Award,” states Michelle Younkman, Executive director of Christian music broadcasters. “Our industry is stronger because of their music and ministry, and they are the definition of what the Rich Mullins Artist Impact award represents.”

“My wife Susan and I had the honor to sign Big Daddy Weave to Fervent Records 15 years ago, and seeing these men honored with the Rich Mullins Artist Impact Award at CMB’s Momentum 2016 holds a very special place for me,” shares Rod Riley, President & CEO, Word Entertainment. “Especially considering the recent health-related events that Jay Weaver and his family have gone through, and seeing how Christian Radio and fans have, and continue to respond, it is clear that Big Daddy Weave has set the bar very high when it comes to contributing to the music and ministry of Christian Radio. I could not be more proud to get to work in support of the music and ministry of Big Daddy Weave, and see how God continues to use them to impact culture.”

Accepting the award for the band was Big Daddy Weave’s bass player, Jason (Jay) Weaver. This was Jay’s first appearance since he had both feet amputated as part of ongoing efforts to fight a deep infection in his body.

“The relationship we’ve had with our friends in Christian Radio all of these years is a huge honor to us,” shares Jay Weaver. “They believe in and support the mission we’ve been given. Now to be mentioned by them in the same breath as Rich Mullins is truly humbling.”

Jay continues, “The way our friends in radio have rallied around my family through all of this says so much about them. People who would have never heard about this in any other way except through Christian Radio have been praying for us, with us seeing a physical reaction to that in our lives.”

Big Daddy Weave is currently on the 4th edition of their popular concept event, the Beautiful Offerings Tour, through this fall concluding on November 20th. The 50-city tour features Plumb and We Are Messengers and is sponsored by World Vision. Check out the tour dates here, bigdaddyweave.com/tour.

I think I was born with a pair of headphones attached to my head!

I have always loved radio and was introduced to Contemporary Christian Music when I was a lowly freshman in high school, way back in 1977! "Praise the Lord" by The Imperials, "Your Love Broke Through" by Keith Green and others were the first songs I heard and played over and over again!
